Children at the Children's Village Residence

Odemary Proches

Birth year:  2005

Odemary and his older sister, Severa, come from a rural area that is 3 hours from Moshi by car.  Their father died and mother has AIDS.  Due to the disease, she has been ostracized by the family, so receives no support from them.   A neighbor told SWIWSCO about the severely malnourished condition of the children.  They were brought to the residence in 2009.  Odemary is being sponsored to attend private nursery school.

Jacqueline Iddy

Birth year:  2005

Jacqueline’s father died and her mother abandoned her after birth. She was left to the care of her grandmother who was taking care of 7 children and grandchildren.  The rest of the family won’t help her and, she can’t support the children with the little food she receives from neighbors. As a result, 2 of the grandchildren are in an orphanage in Arusha and the village precinct chief recommended that Jacqueline be taken care of by SWIWSCO.  She arrived at the residence in 2010.  Jacqueline is being sponsored for private nursery school.

God Bless Peter

Birth Year:  2004

God Bless is from a family of 5 children.  His mother worked for SWIWSCO to support her family, but was caught stealing and was fired.  She took the youngest child, left her son at the orphanage and the other 3 children at home with their father.  After he lost his job, he abandoned the children.  His present whereabouts are unknown.  God Bless is currently being sponsored go to private nursery school.



Gaspar Kennedy

Birth year:  2004

Gasper was born in Machame village in rural Moshi.  He is the youngest of 2 children.  In 2006, his father died from AIDS.  His mother, who has AIDS and is alcoholic, was incapable of caring for the children.  In 2008, the neighbors approached SWIWSCO and asked them to assume care for Gaspar.  He arrived in a severely malnourished state.  He is being sponsored for private nursery school.



Haruna Adamu

Haruna is from a remote rural village in the Kilimanjaro region.  He is the third of five children.  His mother died and his father is disabled, unable to walk or work.  The children were living with neighbors.  The village precinct chief told SWIWSCO about the desperately poor situation in the household.  Haruna came to the residence in 2010.  He is being sponsored to attend private nursery school.


Mwindin Khalidi

Birth year:  2001

Mwindini and his older brother, Abduli, are from rural Kibosho village.  His father died before he was born and when he was three months old his mother suddenly disappeared, leaving the children in the care of their elderly grandmother.  Their grandmother wasn't able to support the children's needs, and in 2009, a neighbor reported the problem to SWIWSCO.   They have been in the residential home since May 2009.  Mwindini is in primary school.

Seleman Khalifa

Seleman and his older sister, Tatu, are from Moshi.  When he was two, their father died from diabetes and uneducated mother was left to care for the kids.  The relatives would not help support the family believing the deceased was not the real father of the children.  Their mother could not feed them and asked SWIWSCO to take them in.  They have been in the residence since 2007.  Seleman is in primary school.


Nurudin Said

Nurudini was found wondering the streets at age 3.  When his father died in 2005, his mother gave the three children to their grandmother.  The mother's present whereabouts are unknow.  Along with Ally, Collins took him into his home in 2006.  That was the beginning of the SWIWSCO program.  
Nurudini is in primary school. 

Juma Adam

Juma is the second born in a family of 5 kids.  His parents were unable to care for him due to extreme poverty and he ran away from home several times.  He came to SWIWSCO in 2010.  Juma is in primary school.

Said Aliamin

Saidi is from a family of 5 children who lived in the rural Tanga region.  The father abandoned the family, leaving a mother who made a living selling oranges on the streets.   She was unable to support so many children and in 2006, asked SWIWSCO to support her son. Saidi is in primary school.

Ally Rajabu

Ally was found on the streets at age 3.  In 2005 his father abondoned the family, leaving an uneducated and alcoholic mother to support the three children.  His mother asked Collins to assume care for Ally.  Along with Nurudini, Collins took him into his home in 2006.  That was the beginning of the SWIWSCO program.  Ally is in primary school. 


Charles Steven

Charley is one of 4 children.  He is from a remote village in the Kilimanjaro region.  His father died when he was three and his uneducated mother was unable to support the family.   The village precinct chief told SWIWSCO about the desperately poor situation of the family and in 2010, Charles came to the residence.  H
e is in primary school.

Jamila Kimati

Jamila is from a remote masai village.  She is the third of four children.  Her father has a few goats, but no income and her mother stays home to care for the children.  The school is 2 hours away from the home and impossible for a small child to walk to. Jamila's mother felt the only way her daughter would receive an education was through SWIWSCO's support.  Jamila is in primary school.

Elizabeth Richard

Elizabeth is from a very remote Masai village.  She is the sixth of seven children. Her father has other wives and children and he is not able to support the entire family with his income.  Her mother spends her days taking care of all the children and doesn’t work.  The village precinct chief told SWIWSCO about Elizabeth’s dire situation and she was brought to the residence in 2010.  At that time, she was not able to speak the national language, Swahili.  Elizabeth is in primary school.

Mwajuma Salehe

Mwajuma is from a very remote rural village in the Kilimanjaro region.  She is the fifth born of six children.  Her father is still living but is insane and doesn’t recognize his family.  Her mother is uneducated and unemployed.  The village precinct chief told SWIWSCO about Mwajuma’s living situation and she was brought to the residence in 2010.  She is enrolled in primary school

Zainabu Ibrahim

Arabia Abson

Rabia is from a very remote rural village in the Kilimanjaro region.  She is the youngest of three children.  Her mother died from AIDS, and her father is insane.  They were living with a very old grandmother who was unable to care for them.  Rabia came to SWIWSCO in 2010 based on a recommendation from the village precinct chief
She is in primary school.

Hassan Iddy

Hassani was born in Moshi.  He is an only child.  When he was 3 years old, his father was convicted of murder and will spend his life in jail.  His mother was uneducated and unable to care for the family.  She was concerned that Hassani would also become a criminal.  In 2006 she asked SWIWSCO to assume responsibility for raising her son.
  Hassani is being sponsored to attend private primary school.

They were left in the care of a very old and sick grandmother.  A neighbor reported their desperate situation to SWIWSCO and they were brought to the residence in 2009.  Abduli is enrolled in primary school.


Majid Iddy

Majid's mother died at childbirth, his father is unknown and a sister raised him until age 12.  She moved back to her village where there is no school.  Wanting him to continue with his education, she approached SWIWSCO.  Majid came to the residence in 2010.  He is enrolled in primary school.

Vumilia Juma

Birth year:  1999

Vumilia is from a remote rural village.  She is the youngest of 9 children. Her father died when she was nine and her mother found a new man who wasn’t supportive of the children.  As a result of the negligence, the boys left home and the girls became pregnant. Her mother has rheumatoid arthritis and is unable to go to the forest to find firework to sell so she is completely dependent upon her husband to care for her children.  In 2008 she asked SWIWSCO to accept Vumilia. Vumilia is enrolled in primary school.

Kundaeli Elia

Birth year:  1996

Kundaeli is the 4th of five children.  She finished primary school, but her desperately poor parents couldn’t afford to pay for secondary education.  The only secondary school in the area requires a two hour walk and has 700 students and 2 teachers.  Because of the situation, SWIWSCO was asked to care for her and provide an education.  She is enrolled in secondary school.


Mwayuma Ibrahimu

Mwajuma and her younger sister, Zainabu, are from a very remote rural village in the Kilimanjaro region.  Their father died from AIDS in 2009 and their mother is ill with AIDS and not able to work or feed the children.  The children came to SWIWSCO in 2010. Mwajuma is in secondary school.

Peresi Gerald

Birth year:  1996

Peresi is from a very remote rural village several hours from Moshi.  She is  an only child.  Her mother died, and her father has no income, so he receives housing through a mission. The village precinct chief asked SWIWSCO to assume care for Peresi.  She came to the residence in 2010.
  Peresi is enrolled in secondary school.

Godfrey Beda

Birth year:  1994

Godfrey ran away from home and was living on farms outside Moshi, making enough to put himself through primary school.  He has had no contact with his family since.  Collins found him and paid him to take care of the garden at SWIWSCO.  When he recognized uthat Godfrey had passed the necessary exams for secondary school, he admitted him to the SWIWSCO residential program.  He is now enrolled in secondary school.



Ezekiel Jeremiah

Birth year:  1996

Ezekiel was found wandering around the area outside of Moshi where Collins has a farm.  His mother died and father remarried.  Ezekiel’s stepmother refused to allow him in the house so, he would occasionally sneak in at night to sleep.  He made money by selling fish and managed to put himself through primary school.  Collins brought him to SWIWSCO in 2009.  Ezekiel is in secondary school.


Zulfa Iddy

Zulfa is from a rural village outside Moshi.  She is the oldest of 2 children.  Her father and mother died of AIDS in 2004 when she was 14 years old.  Zulfa received educational assistance from SWIWSCO for two years while living with a family in her village.homeand taking care of her ill mother and young brother.  She came to the residence in 2009.  Zulfa is in secondary school.  She plans to be a doctor.

Halima Hassan Mapya

Halima and her younger sister, Jamila, are from Ngoro, a neighborhood in Moshi.  There are three children in the family.  Their father died from diabetes in 2004, leaving an uneducated mother to care for the family.  She learned to make a living weaving hair, a job that makes less than $1.00 per day.  Jamila was in the residential facility as well, but because of her mother’s health problems, she moved home to care for her and her young brother.  Halima came to SWIWSCO in 2008.  She wants to become a doctor.

Ismail Karata

Birth year:  2002

Ismaili was born in Moshi.  He is being raised by Abduli's parents and is not aware they aren't his parents.  The whereabouts of his real parents is unknown.  His adoptive father abandoned the family and his mother was not able to care for the children.  In 2006, she asked SWIWSCO to assume responsibility for raising Ismail and his brother, Abduli.  They lived at the residence until February 2010 when their father returned home and demanded the return of his sons.  Ismaili is enrolled in primary school.

  

Abdul Karata

Abduli was born in Moshi.  He is one of 5 children.  His father abandoned the family, leaving an uneducated and unemployed mother to care for the children.  In 2006, his mother asked SWIWSCO to assume responsibility for raising Abduli and his older brother Ismail.  They lived at the residence until February 2010 when their father returned and demanded the boys return home.  Abduli is enrolled in primary school.

Richard Shimela

Birth year:  1994

Richard is the third of 4 children.  His parents were separated in 2005 and left the children with their grandmother.  His brother, Victor, quit school because they couldn’t afford the fees and works part time in a coffee plantation trying to help the family survive.  SWIWSCO is helping Richard with his secondary school expenses.  

Said Muhando

aidi was born in Moshi.  He is the youngest of 2 children.  His father died in 2004 due to AIDS and in 2008, he lost his mother to AIDS.  He lived with his grandmother until age 6 when she was no longer able to care for him.  Saidi lived at SWIWSCO until late 2009 when his battle with AIDS required more care than the residence could provide.  He returned to live with his grandmother.  He is enrolled in primary school.

Johari Rashid

Johari was born in Moshi.  She is the oldest of 7 children.  When she was 4 years old, her father died after a long illness.  Her uneducated mother was not able to support the children and 2 grandchildren who live with her.  In 2008, she asked SWIWSCO to help support 4 of the children.  2 of them are no longer receiving SWIWSCO assistance.  Johari is enrolled in primary school.

Elizabeth Kachage

Elizabeth was born in Moshi.  She is the middle of 3 children.  Elizabeth’s father is a well known thief in town and spends over 300 days in jail each year.  Her uneducated mother walks the streets asking people if they have chores for her.  Earning less than $1.00 per day, she can’t afford to support her children.  In March 2007 she asked SWIWSCO to assume support her daughter's education.  Elizabeth is enrolled in primary school.

Serafina Edward

Birth year:   2002

Serafina is one of two children.  Their father murdered their mother in 2002.  He ended up in jail, and there is no news on his present whereabouts.  Serafina's grandmother took her in and her younger brother went to Dar es Salaam to live with a friend of their mother.  SWIWSCO began supporting Serafina's education in 2008.  She is in secondary school.

Zainabu Mohamed

Zainabu is the oldest of 3 children.  Her father abandoned the family when she was a baby, leaving an unemployed and uneducated mother.  When she was 2 years old, her mother remarried a man who had 2 of his own children.  The new husband didn't like Zainabu and refused to support her.  Her mother asked SWIWSCO for educational assistance.  Zainabu is in primary school.
