Mwidin and his older brother, Abduli, are from rural Kibosho village. His father died before he was
born and when he was three months old his mother suddenly disappeared, leaving the children in the care of their elderly grandmother. Their grandmother wasn't able to support the children's needs, and in 2009, a neighbor reported the problem to SWIWSCO. They have been in the residential home since May 2009. The school is 2 hours away from the home and impossible for a small child to walk to. Jamila's mother felt the only way her daughter would receive an education was through SWIWSCO's support, so Jamila came to live at SWIWSCO in 2010. Jamila is in primary school second year as of 2011. Hassan was born in Moshi. He is an only child. When he was 3 years old, his father was convicted of murder and will spend his life in jail. His mother was uneducated and unable to care for the family. She was concerned that Hassan would also become a criminal. In 2006 she asked SWIWSCO to assume responsibility for raising her son. Hassan is currently in his fourth year of primary school and is being sponsored by Miss. Chelsea of Australia to attend a private academic school.

Vumilia is from a remote rural village. She is the youngest of 9 children. Her father died when she was nine and her mother found a new man who wasn’t supportive of the children. As a result of the negligence, the boys left home and the older girls became pregnant. Her mother has rheumatoid arthritis and is unable to go to the forest to find firewood to sell. She is completely dependent upon her husband to care for her children. In 2008 she asked SWIWSCO to accept Vumilia. Vumilia is enrolled in primary school firth year as of 2011. Kundaeli is the 4th of five children. She finished primary school, but her desperately poor parents couldn’t afford to pay for secondary education. The only secondary school in the area requires a two hour walk and has 700 students and 2 teachers. Because of the situation, SWIWSCO was asked to care for her and provide an education. She is enrolled in government secondary school second year as of 2011.
